Alex MacLean

Exhibitions: Americaland

France

March 13, 2003 - April 27, 2003

A solo exhibition in conjunction with the Ministère de la Culture et de la Communication and BETC/ Euro RSCG advertising agency in partnership with the Ministry of Culture and Communication, Architecture and Heritage Department. A result of this project was MacLean's book, Designs on the Land.

The Americaland exhibition will mark the opening of the new Passage du Désir to the general public. This 1,000 square metre street level space running from the rue du Faubourg Saint-Martin to the boulevard de Strasbourg is the logical venue for the agency’s artistic and cultural aspirations. The inaugural Alex MacLean exhibition in March 2003 will be the first of numerous cultural events. In fact, the agency hopes to create a foundation in the near future.

In some ways this exhibition is rooted in traditional techniques of representing landscapes, especially the Panoramas that fascinated Parisian multitudes in the 19th century.

Today we no longer dream of the beauty of ideal worlds, of the classical streets and buildings of Greece and Rome or the magnificent unspoiled landscapes. In Americaland visitors will see something equally stirring and thought-provoking, and similarly from a historical perspective, the always-changing natural and built landscapes of today.
